Manhattan Beach Farmers Market
Jun 9, 2026
The Hermosa Beach 4th of July is unlike any other July 4th celebration you’ve ever seen. The centerpiece is the Hermosa Beach Ironman — now in its 53rd year, one of the most beloved and ridiculous beach traditions on the California coast. The format is exactly what it sounds like: a one-mile run down the sand, a one-mile paddle out in the ocean, and then the final leg — chugging a six-pack of beer. You bring your own board and your own beer. You have 20 minutes to finish the beer. If you can’t keep it down, you’re disqualified. The winner is whoever crosses the finish line first with their stomach intact.
More than 1,600 people participated in 2025, setting a new record. The event draws spectators from across the South Bay who line the sand to watch. A yellow caution tape corral marks the beer-drinking zone — temporarily sanctioned by the city — and mounted officers patrol the perimeter. It is, in the best possible way, completely absurd and completely Hermosa.
Beyond the Ironman, Pier Plaza fills up early and stays packed all day. The beach has a full party energy from morning through the evening. Note: fireworks are illegal in Hermosa Beach — fines are steep and the city enforces. For fireworks, Redondo Beach at King Harbor runs a professional show at 9pm, about 10 minutes south, or head to Manhattan Beach at sunset.
Arrive very early or plan to walk/bike in. Parking near Pier Plaza on July 4th is essentially impossible by mid-morning.
